about
When Charlie Watts died, I made a playlist of Rolling Stones songs for my drive to work. I got in the car and pressed "random" and Behind The Wall of Sleep by The Smithereens started playing. I accidentally dragged it to the playlist. Just as I was thinking "this has nothing to do with The Stones" this line made me go down a weeks long Smithereens rabbit hole.
Well she held a bass guitar and she was playing in a band
and she stood just lie Bill Wyman, now I am her biggest fan
I always loved The Smithereens but listening with fresh ears, I realized how great they really were. I was also reminded of the time in high school when I auditioned to sing for a band and Wall Of Sleep was one of the songs we played. I sang it poorly and did not get the gig.
So I decided to record it and it started to take on its own style. So I had my neighbor and band mate Jared Holaday add some sax and bass. I played guitar and sang. We put our own spin on it and by that I mean I played it from memory and got the lyrics, tempo and chords wrong!
We have added it to our set. I wasn't planning on playing a cover but I am glad we did.
